cfg2html Install Steps
cfg2html is a collection of Open Source scripts that gathers detailed information from a Unix system. It should be setup on all Unix systems at the server build stage.
It can aid in the recovery of a system by providing a recent detailed configuration snapshot of a server. Once a server has been setup with cfg2html as per the relevant instructions below, it will generate a configuration snapshot on the server locally.
Every Sunday, a cron job on tripwire will gather (using SCP) all the servers' config pages & centrally generate a HTML page on tripwire to display them. A backup tar file of all the configs is also created at this time, so it would be possible to trace back what changes were made to a server and when the changes were made. Along with a HTML file there is a TXT file for each server. With local access to tripwire, this can be easier to manipulate with scripting.
